The frontend didn't start up properly so I had to do a rolling restart in the instance group managers to get the sample working. My guess is a timing dependency like maybe the backend needs to come up before the front end. I also tinkered with the scaling because I was out of public addresses in europe-north-1 for the lab but I thin the rolling restart did the trick. My suggestion is to make the frontend more robust.
