The app.yaml should use latest Python. WARNING: Python 3.7 is no longer supported by the Python community as of 27 June, 2023. Python 3.7 will be end of support on 2024-01-30. As of 2024-01-30 you will no longer be able to deploy your App Engine Standard using python37. We recommend you to upgrade to the latest version of Python as soon as possible. Task 3, step 4 says the instance can be created in any region. Creating it in us-central-1 gave error "Please create a VM instance as per the given configuration." But creating it in us-west-2 worked. Default for my lab was us-west-1.
