If you are not creating the SQL instance correctly, you get kicked out of the lab instead of it telling you, you did something incorrectly.

I had the problem that wordpress was NOT working. I got the following message all the time: "Your PHP installation appears to be missing the MySQL extension which is required by WordPress." I had to restart apache to make it work.
