Great lab using whatever knowledge you had from linux and mysql for the import and export. The rest was really easy.

No good. Very much like a real world example where people don't know (or perhaps regularly lie) about the state a machine is in. An exercise in frustration at not being able to login to the database with the provided credential, nor use the google-recommended low-downtime procedures. First the blogadmin mysql password is not as described. And --set-gtid-purged=on is not supported by the maria version being used, which is a recommended setting from google when using mysqldump. Without the proper password, of course, you can still start mysql in safe mode.... and after looking around -- the blogadmin user exists but is restricted to localhost so how will the cloud sql migration agent attach to become a slave replica? Not a good way to show off how easy it would be to migrate to cloud sql.

Two things to be noted. 1. Password for local mysql instance is Password1*. 2. Add /32 to your static IP to whitelist the instance in CloudSQL.

why does the config update do not work and allow the wp site to establish db connectivity? there seems to be no logical explanation of why this does not work when you specify all the appropriate ip details on both cloudsql side as well as within wp-config.php, i can connect to cloudsql db using mysql command line yet wordpress does not connect? why?

Though the blog instance connects to Cloud SQL ( have added the blog static ip in sql authorized network ip ) , the scoring UI doesn't seem to check correctly that the blog instance accesses SQL. The password mentioned in the instructions should be Password1* instead of Password1 - found this from instance startup script & wp-config.php. Though the blog instance could connect to sql instance , the score gui could not check that fine.
