This lab had several inconsistencies that made it harder to complete than it should have been: In the outputs.tf code snippet provided, the value field for the bucket-name output was written with quotation marks around it ("module.gcs-static-website-bucket.bucket"), as if it were a string literal. This is incorrect syntax — it should be a reference without quotes (module.gcs-static-website-bucket.bucket), or Terraform throws a type error. The suggested bucket name in the instructions (using the raw Project ID as the bucket name) is not globally unique, since Cloud Storage bucket names must be unique across all of Google Cloud, not just within a single project. Following the instructions literally results in a "bucket already exists" error. Because of the naming conflict above, once a unique bucket name is chosen (e.g., adding a suffix), the later steps that reference the original bucket name literally (both the gcloud storage cp command and the browser verification URL) become inconsistent and fail, since they still reference the non-unique name from the original instructions. It would help to update the instructions to either use a naming convention that guarantees uniqueness (e.g., appending a random suffix or the student's own project-specific identifier already used elsewhere) or to explicitly warn students that the bucket name needs to be adjusted if it's already taken, and to keep all subsequent commands consistent with whatever name was actually used.
