I wasn't able to view anything via the web browser. Was something required with the private key? Or did I not wait long enough for the DNS to resolve the name? If the later, it'd be nice to know how to determine if I waited long enough.

The VPC had to be correctly selected. The default VPC was wrong and the article didn't say it had to be changed. I had to launch the ELB twice.
