This lab was conceptually useful but difficult to complete due to multiple inconsistencies in the Backup and DR interface. While the objectives were clear, the execution was frustrating because the UI did not always behave as expected. The most significant issue occurred during the restore process in Task 5. Even after explicitly selecting “Mount as new GCE instance” and providing a new instance name, the system repeatedly performed an in-place restore instead of creating a new VM. This made it very difficult to meet the grading requirements despite following instructions correctly. Additionally, the interface is not intuitive. Important selections like choosing the correct VM (lab-vm vs appliance) and selecting the correct restore mode are easy to miss due to poor visual emphasis. The job monitoring and feedback also lack clarity, which makes debugging harder for learners. Another challenge was the strict grader logic combined with a time-limited lab. Even minor UI issues or inconsistencies can cause the entire task to fail, forcing a restart. This creates unnecessary pressure and reduces the learning experience. Overall, the lab content is valuable for understanding backup and disaster recovery concepts, but the execution needs improvement. Fixing UI inconsistencies, improving feedback messages, and making grading more tolerant of known issues would significantly enhance the experience.
