some errors in the configuration: by default in the lab, vpc flow log is not enabled on custom subnet. Therefore, we cannot filter on vpc flow log in log explorer but we have to go first and enable it.

The section for Logs Viewer needs to be updated... I had to click on 'Legacy Logs Viewer' in view and follow the instructions in this module, the option, Logs > Log Viewer does not appear in the default navigation menu.

Instructions/lab need to be updated. Specifically, the interface to Logging on GCP seems to have changed considerably from when this lab was written, and the instructions no longer seem to apply.
