The blue and green VMs are created with enable-oslogin=TRUE at both project and instance level, but the student account is granted only Owner/Editor/Viewer — not roles/compute.osLogin or roles/compute.osAdminLogin. Since basic roles don't include OS Login permissions, gcloud compute ssh fails with Permission denied (publickey) and the error gives no indication that OS Login is the cause. Adding roles/compute.osAdminLogin to the student account at provisioning time, or stating the requirement in the lab instructions, would fix this.
