I took this as part of the AWS Technicals online. Introducing non-Amazon tools like "putty" makes it confusing. Also, in the video the instructor goes straight to a "terminal" without introducing even mentioning the terminal options etc., It is very confusing. That terminal bore no resemblance to the "putty" interface. So, as a student, there is a huge disconnect. It took me about a half hour to figure it out. When I did get the connection via the terminal it said "log-in as?" I didn't know what I was supposed to enter. If you really want to make this customer-centric and easy, then it should only have tool-sets built into the Amazon site as part of the initial instance set-up. Just a thought.

Could not get to work from Windows - would not connect to server. Was debugging it but lesson timed out. Switched to Linux for second try and all worked OK.

Very basic. Maybe add picking a more specific AMI from a list and then verifying that the AMI was what I expected or something like that...
