This was very interesting. I had a number of errors whilst trying to load my EC2 instance - firstly 'There was an error creating the VPC. An unknown error occured' in a pop-up box with a blue 'Try again' button. I tried a few things to get round it, including changing my AZ to Ireland, which worked until I tried to launch the instance, when I got an authentication error saying 'This account is blocked and not recognised as a valid account'. which I assume is by design since I was outside the originally designated AZ. I then went back into the original AZ and eventually managed to launch an instance from the Linux AMI but it failed again at the 'Security Groups' stage - I had to reload to re-try when it failed (I didn't capture the error). I mean, I got into my node successfully using SSH via Putty but it was a bit of a faff and I needed 27 minutes of the 30 to do it, and I'm a unix sys admin who's used AWS before so others may struggle. Anyway. Thanks for an interesting lab!
