The lab was clear in its step-by-step instructions on how to configure and initialize a new AWS instance. However, I kept getting an error whenever I actually tried to launch the instance.

The lab itself was great. But the instructions for the method of connection to the Linux instance were cli based when the GUI PUTTY version had more details for logging into a Windows instance. I would suggest including the same level of detail for the Linux connection as you included in the Windows description. Primarily because the lab takes you through creating and Linux instance.

This is a good intro . I would suggest adding an additional 10 minutes so there isn't a feeling of being rushed.
