It seemed like there was an old key configured for the bucket and the commands in the lab did not work, i had to do the following: The bucket has "Encryption Enforcement" turned on for a different key than what you are providing. To clear this and allow your new key: bashgsutil kms encryption -d gs://$BUCKET_NAME_1/
